Banner Sign Co. & Digital Print Specialties
Celebrating 100 Years of Detroit Craftsmanship | Milwaukee Junction, Detroit, MI
Full-Time | Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM | Overtime as Needed
Who We Are
Banner Sign Co. is one of Michigan’s oldest and most trusted sign and digital printing companies, having celebrated our 100th year in 2024. Located in Detroit’s historic Milwaukee Junction district, we’ve spent a century building brands, environments, and landmark projects for some of the area’s most recognizable companies and special events.
We don’t just make signs. We solve problems, pull off the near-impossible, and deliver work that makes people stop and look. Our production floor is the engine behind it all, and we’re looking for an experienced Production / Print Technician to help keep it running at its best.
The Role
As our Production / Print Technician, you’ll be the hands-on backbone of the shop floor—the first one in, the last line of quality control, and the person who keeps flatbed printing, CNC routing, vinyl installation, and finishing operations running smoothly.
You’ll work closely with our Operations Manager and Project Management team to transform complex work orders into finished, installed, and ship-ready products—on time, every time.
This is a true hands-on production role. You’re not managing people on day one—you’re mastering the craft. For the right person, however, this position offers a clear path into a future leadership role as our production department continues to grow.
What You’ll Do
Daily Operations
- Start printers, perform router warm-up procedures, and prepare equipment for production.
- Review morning emails and prioritize urgent or rush jobs.
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance on flatbed printers and CNC equipment.
- Review work orders and coordinate with the Operations Manager and Customer Service team.
- Participate in production meetings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Properly shut down equipment and secure the facility at the end of each day.
Equipment & Materials Management
- Maintain wide-format printers, CNC router, plotter, and laminator.
- Troubleshoot equipment and coordinate parts and supply ordering.
- Maintain inventory of inks, cleaning supplies, filters, swabs, router bits, tool holders, and collets.
- Manage substrate inventory including ACM, Foamcore, Ultraboard, Styrene, Sintra, Coroplast, and adhesive vinyl.
- Maintain laminate, transfer tape, mounting tape, and hardware supplies.
- Keep the router room clean, organized, lubricated, and properly maintained.
Production & Quality
- Operate printing, laminating, routing, cutting, mounting, vinyl application, and assembly equipment.
- Maintain knives, blades, cutting guides, mats, and finishing tools.
- Ensure quality standards are met throughout every stage of production.
- Stay current on materials, equipment, and production techniques.
- Perform vinyl installations for flat surfaces, contour applications, and on-site installations.
Shipping, Receiving & Logistics
- Package and ship finished products using UPS and other carriers.
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming shipments.
- Maintain shipping materials and recycle reusable packaging.
- Maintain the company delivery van, including cleanliness, fuel, maintenance, and tool inventory.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience in a sign shop, wide-format printing, or production environment.
- Lead or supervisory experience is a plus but not required.
- Advanced proficiency with Onyx, EnRoute, PRISMAelevate, Mimaki Fine Cut, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong computer skills, including email and work order management.
- Excellent finishing and cutting skills using utility knives, X-Acto knives, hot knives, and power tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
- Solid understanding of sign construction, substrates, laminates, ADA signage, and production methods.
- Professional vinyl installation experience with clean, bubble-free results.
- Outstanding organization and inventory management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to prioritize under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Growth Potential (Preferred, Not Required)
We’re looking for someone who wants to grow into a future production leadership role. The following qualities are highly valued:
- Experience training or mentoring team members.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- An ownership mindset with proactive problem-solving.
- Experience scheduling or supervising a small team.
- A genuine interest in advancing into production management.
Schedule & Compensation
- Full-Time: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
- Overtime and occasional weekends as required.
- $20.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Health care allowance.
- Dental and vision coverage.
- Life insurance.
- Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
